INTERPRETING
Interpreting is oral translation enabling two people, or two groups of people, to understand each other. I offer two main types of interpreting service:
-
Simultaneous Interpreting. This service is particularly useful for seminars or conferences. The interpreter listens to the speaker and simultaneously translates for people in the audience wearing headphones.
-
Consecutive Interpreting. If you have a business meeting with a small number of people, or a site visit, a liaison interpreter can facilitate communication between the parties.
I invoice interpreting by the day and you must also consider the possible rental cost of any equipment required (microphones, headphones, booth, etc.).
Please bear in mind that the interpreter may not be familiar with the content of the meeting. A preliminary meeting to discuss the subject matter is, therefore, advisable to ensure the best possible service. It is also essential to provide any glossaries or presentation material several days in advance to allow adequate preparation.
If you are organizing a meeting with simultaneous translation, it is vital that the interpreter can hear the speaker clearly. It is worth considering the acoustics of the room, speakers should ideally use a microphone, and soundproof booths for interpreters can also be rented.
